Amazon has officially canceled the pre-orders for Capcom's "Mighty No. 9" that were meant for the Nintendo 3DS and PlayStation Vita nearly a decade after they were promised.
The franchise, which was originally released in 2016, was a way for "Mega Man" artist Keiji Inafune to try and resurrect the beloved series. "Mighty No. 9" came out with the help of millions in funding, but it was eventually delayed and was not well-received.
Mighty No. 9 Pre-Orders
Furthermore, there were promised 3DS and PlayStation Vita ports that never really arrived for fans of the game. It took Amazon almost a decade before it finally decided to cancel them on behalf of the players.
Stuart Gipp said, "It's Over," in a post on Bluskey that was accompanied by a screenshot of Amazon UK's cancellation notice for the "Mighty No. 9" pre-order. The notice said that it was due to a lack of availability that they were not able to obtain the item requested, according to Kotaku.
The original Kickstarter for "Mighty No. 9" was announced in 2013 at PAX and was able to quickly amass the initial $900,000 goal. It had a final stretch goal of $4 million that ensured it would arrive on 3DS and PlayStation Vita on top of the PC and console versions.
Various Issues and Struggles
Developer Comcept, which was led by Inafune, was later bought by Level-5 in 2017. The studio blamed that development for the delay to "Mighty No. 9." It noted that while the handheld ports would not be delivered on time, they were still planned to be released.
The latest development suggests that all of the people who pre-ordered "Mighty No. 9" for 3DS and PlayStation Vita will receive emails canceling their pre-orders. Many fans are disappointed by the lackluster legacy that the game left for itself, Go Nintendo said.
On top of Amazon canceling the pre-orders for "Mighty No. 9" on 3DS and PlayStation Vita, the company also now has zero stock of the game. Players are now unable to order it through the digital store.
Many fans are not surprised by the latest developments, as both the 3DS and the PlayStation Vita are considered relics of the past in terms of handheld gaming. The last games for the two consoles were released in 2023, three for the 3DS and one for the PlayStation Vita.
But since then, no new games have arrived on the handheld consoles, which could mark the end of their era, according to The Gamer.
