A new update for Cloud Imperium Games' "Star Citizen" gives hope to fans of the long-delayed game with larger server sizes, a new star system, and many more.
The game finally hit alpha 4.0 after what chief developer Chris Roberts called a "much longer than anticipated development process." Many players consider the space sim one of the most controversial projects in the history of the video game industry.
Star Citizen's Alpha 4.0
It has been more than a decade since the "Star Citizen's" crowdfunding drive started to deliver on the promises of its developers. The game has received many nicknames, and some even called it a scam because they wondered if it would actually be released at some point.
Additionally, many players criticized parts of the game itself, including its virtual spaceships, where some could cost hundreds of dollars each. "Star Citizen" has now raised $767 million, and the developer has made its revenue public on its website, according to IGN.

Cloud Imperium Games talked about the game's 1.0 launch in March 2024, saying that it was already within sight. However, the studio still did not provide eager players with an official release window.
Roberts also said that they showcased the first in-game prototype of traveling from the Stanton System to the Pyro System using a Jump Point. He added that what the studio teased in 2019 has become a reality for all players with the launch of "Star Citizen's" Alpha 4.0 to the live servers.
A Ton of New Stuff
The launch of Alpha 4.0 is a very big deal for the game as version 3.0 was originally released in 2017, which is a long time ago. The latest update introduces players to the new Pyro star system that features six planets, six moons, and tons of outposts and bases, PCGamer said.
But the main highlight of the new update is probably that the game now uses server meshing. This means that the maximum number of players who can be on the same server at the same time has gone up to MMO scale.
There are also plenty of other inclusions in the update, including all servers getting reset and wiped. This forces everyone to start fresh with an extra 20,000 aUEC of in-game currency. One thing that players get to keep is their hangars full of ships.
The new update also brings bandits, raiders, and loot-hungry opposition players that you should keep an eye on during your space adventures. Even with the arrival of Alpha 4.0, the game's Alpha 3.24.3 is still available, according to PCGamesN.
