Dark Souls 2 PC v Console Graphics Comparison [VIDEO]

Dark Souls 2 PC v Console Graphics Comparison [VIDEO]

Dark Souls 2 just released on PC this week, more than a month after the punishing title launched on PS3 and Xbox 360. By all accounts, the PC version looks better than its console counterpart, offering higher resolution options and a better framerate. Now you can see the differences for yourself in the comparison video below from Digital Foundry.

The PC port of the original Dark Souls was disappointing, to say the least. The title lacked any polish and offered little to no graphics options, limiting PC gamers to a sluggish framerate and unimpressive resolution choices. It took an unofficial patch made by modder Durante to get the title looking and running better, and From Software seems to have learned their lesson from that experience.

The developers were determined not to release an underwhelming PC port this time around, even stating that the Windows edition would be the best version of Dark Souls 2. It boasts 60fps and 1080p, in addition to the enhanced graphics options you would expect from a modern PC title. They've even included 4K resolutions (if you have a monitor than can support it) alongside the options for textures, shadows, effects, motion blur, and more.

Dark Souls 2 is running on high settings at 1080p in the graphics comparison video below, so crank up the YouTube resolution to see the full difference. The assets mostly look the same, but everything is sharper and smoother--60fps is noticeable over 30 when you play. Enjoy the comparison and strongly consider the PC version if you have the hardware and are at all interested in Dark Souls 2.
