First 'Borderlands 4' Gameplay Footage Set To Be Revealed at The Game Awards

The first official gameplay footage for Borderlands 4 has been confirmed to be scheduled for The Game Awards to tease Gearbox Software's most ambitious entry in the franchise.

The developer posted on social media that they will "crank things up to the next f***ing level at #TheGameAwards." The studio then asked fans who were ready to take their first look at the company's most ambitious Borderlands title yet.

It is still unclear just how much footage Gearbox Software plans to reveal during The Game Awards or what it would include. However, the wording that it is the first look suggests that it could be more than just a teaser of Borderlands 4.

The Game Awards event is scheduled to start broadcasting on Thursday, Dec. 12, 2024, at 4:30 p.m. PT or Friday, Dec. 13, 2024, at 12:30 a.m. GMT. Fans can also watch the event on various social media and streaming platforms, according to Games Radar.

Many fans are expecting that this particular reveal is the one that Gearbox Software head Randy Pitchford previously teased as being "badass af." He also mentioned that the last frame of the previous teaser are the first frames of the upcoming footage.

On top of the gameplay footage, Pitchford said that he will share a never-before-seen original cinematic sequence that depicts a moment between Borderlands 3 and Borderlands 4. There is very little information regarding the latest entry in the franchise.

Little Known Information

This is despite Pitchford consistently putting out teasers for the game, such as concept art, details, characters, and items. Pitchford did confirm that the game's antagonist will not be Handsome Jack, Game Spot said.

He said that the main villain will be far more dangerous than any character that fans of the series have encountered before. It is also worth noting that Caleb McAlpine, a terminally ill fan of the franchise, was given a sneak peek of the game after Gearbox Software found out about his request.

The official Gearbox Software account followed up on Pitchford's post and said that it looks like there will be a new trailer for Borderlands 4 soon. It seems like the CEO's reveal of the upcoming footage did not go through official channels.

While some people could see this as a clever attempt at a marketing strategy to hype up Borderlands 4, fans of the franchise are all for it. But Pitchford's history of revealing more than he should leads credence that this is actually real life, according to PCGamer.
