Borderlands Movie: Cate Blanchett Explains Reason She Got Into Live-Action Project

Award-winning actress Cate Blanchett took some time to explain the reason that she got into the upcoming Borderlands live-action adaptation film.

The Australian star has won numerous awards, including two Oscars, four Golden Globes, four BAFTAs, and three SAG awards. Her fame gives her the freedom to choose whatever project she wants to work on.

This has led to some people questioning why she would join the cast of the Borderlands movie when it is a film that would most likely not net her any awards. One factor that played a part in her decision is that in recent times, Blanchett has gravitated towards "crazy asks" and "things I could never conceive of."

This is true for another Academy Award-nominated actor, Liam Neeson, who has recently earned acclaim for a variety of movies, including Schindler's List and Kinsey. Blanchett's other reason is something that may resonate with many people these days.

The Australian actress said that she was desperately bored, noting that it may have been a "little COVID madness." She was apparently spending a lot of time in the garden using a chainsaw a little bit too freely that her husband had to intervene, according to PCGamer.

Blanchett's partner said that the new Borderlands film could "save your life." This is something that probably hit home for a lot of people who were stuck at home and left with nothing to do. Many probably decided to play Borderlands instead.

What many would be relieved to know is that the Australian actress also played the game during her time off. She prepared for her role in the upcoming film by buying a PlayStation 5 and playing the game with her husband.

She said that she wanted to know the limits of the game and what fans of the franchise loved about the characters in it. Blanchett revealed that she later became absorbed in the world of Borderlands including the cosplayers and the YouTube make-up tutorials.

A Fun Shooting Process

The upcoming Borderlands movie is being directed by Eli Roth and will also star Jack Black, Jamie Lee Curtis, and Kevin Hart. Blanchett apparently had a blast making the movie, saying that the "gun-slinging stuff was so much fun," said Kotaku.

In the world of the Borderlands movie, the protagonists are on a planet known as Pandora, where there are as many opportunities to get rich as there are life-threatening situations. The group of heroes is going on a space adventure and is willing to risk everything in order to get some nice loot.

The Borderlands film is set to release on Aug. 9, 2024, following a lengthy period in limbo caused by reshoots and Lionsgate reshuffling its theatrical release schedule. The initial launch will be in the United States and the United Kingdom.

There are also a number of European countries, such as Denmark and France, that will show the film a day or two earlier.

However, most of the international rollout is planned for the same week. Some exceptions to this are the Philippines and Germany, which will only get the movie on Aug. 21, 2024, and Aug. 22, 2024, respectively, according to Space.
