Apple and Sony are reportedly in talks about plans to work together to provide Vision Pro support for PlayStation VR2 controllers.

The news was shared by Mark Gurman in the Power On newsletter for Bloomberg. The two companies were supposedly preparing to announce support for the controllers several weeks ago.

However, some developments occurred that led them to instead choose to push back the rollout. The efforts would allegedly include Apply selling Sony's controllers, which are currently not available on their own.

The PlayStation owner has apparently been working to provide support for several months now. On the other hand, Apple has talked with third-party developers about whether they would make use of Sony's VR controllers.

The partnership would be great news for players who own the Vision Pro and are hoping for the virtual reality headset to have more capabilities. There are some good, native visionOS games but they are not really that plentiful, according to The Verge.

Gurman also noted that Apple is looking to take advantage of the PSVR2 controllers for more than just gaming. They would be able to navigate visionOS and offer players more precise controls in various apps.

Players are currently able to pair a standard Bluetooth controller and navigate visionOS by tapping buttons to select options and scrolling with the analog sticks. While they can also work for gaming, they are primarily limited to iPad and iPhone gamings that have controller support.

Big News for Virtual Reality

The Vision Pro virtual reality headset originally debuted as a premium "spatial computing" device and was priced at $3,499. Apple apparently did not design it to have gaming as its primary use but instead for immersive productivity, entertainment, and apps, Neowin said.

This is vastly different from other similar products, such as Sony's PlayStation VR2, which is currently priced at around $549 and was designed with gamers in mind. The latter emphasizes performance and affordability and requires a PlayStation console.

Apple has had a hard time trying to build a solid gaming ecosystem with the Vision Pro due to its high price and slow adoption. This is despite the device being a standalone system and is powered by the company's M2 chip.

The news comes as Apple reportedly prototyped a "wand" for the Vision Pro, which could be more of a pencil-like tool that can provide precision control. The company originally revealed its virtual reality headset last year and is now available in various countries, according to Gadgets360.
