Developer Hello Games' No Man's Sky has finally achieved a Very Positive overall rating on Steam. This comes nearly a decade from its original release.
The game had a disastrous launch in August 2016 despite the developers hyping it up to the community. It still opened up to a disappointed audience and many people were critical of No Man's Sky on Valve's gaming platform.
No Man's Sky's Steam Rating
A month after the game came out, it faced an investigation by the United Kingdom's Advertising Standards Authority. This was due to the many complaints that Hello Games' title received from British players.
While No Man's Sky was eventually cleared of any wrongdoings a few months after that, many of the mixed reviews for the game remained. But the developers stayed committed and worked to achieve their true vision of the game.
Hello Games released dozens of free major updates to No Man's Sky year after year that added brand-new content and made improvements in various areas. This let it slowly win back the community's trust and praise, according to WCCFTech.

No Man's Sky was able to turn its Mixed review rating to Mostly Positive in September 2021, five years after its original launch. But the latest development marks another momentous occasion as the game progressed even further to Very Positive.
Game director Sean Murray is also the one responsible for managing the official social media channels for No Man's Sky. When he saw the Steam rating for the game, he immediately expressed his gratitude to players for keeping their patience over the years.
A Major Milestone
Tim Woodley from Hello Games previously explained that every percentage point becomes exponentially harder to earn as a game moves up the ratings. This is the reason why there are not that many games that move up their All-Time rating, Eurogamer said.
The next challenge for No Man's Sky now is to, hopefully, move up to the highly coveted Overwhelmingly Positive review rating on Steam. This rating is one that has been achieved by the likes of Persona 5, Baldur's Gate 3, Stardew Valley, and many other popular titles.
Murray previously celebrated when No Man's Sky was able to achieve 78% positive reviews on Steam, which was only short of the 80% needed to get the Very Positive summary. At the time, he was hopeful that the game would one day be able to push through that threshold on Valve's gaming platform, according to Games Radar.
