It's been almost 30 years since we escaped Thunderdome. The world has been without Mad Max for too long.
The fourth Mad Max film, Mad Max: Fury Road has been in production for what seems like decades, despite us getting constant updates about the shooting of George Miller's next installment in the franchise. All sorts of issues have plagued it but it seems like we'll finally see it, eventually. But gamers were waiting for something else in the meantime. At E3 last year Avalanche Studios, the developers of the brilliant Just Cause series, surprised the world with their announcement of a Mad Max game. Seeing as though the folks already know their way around destruction better than almost any other developer out there, they seemed the perfect fit. But now we're going to have to wait a little longer- the game has been delayed till 2015.
Fortunately for us, on the day that they decided to drop this dark, dark news on us, they have also offered us two things to satiate us. The first are the new rumors that Just Cause 3 is also in the works, and the second is a brand new "Magnum Opus" trailer for Mad Max. The trailer is basically vehicle porn, showing off some of the heavily customized and weaponized cars you can build and smash to pieces. They look like they break and explode quite nicely already, and since vehicle combat has to be a major part of any Mad Max game it looks like they're on the right track.
The GameNGuide staff was just talking about what an underrated masterpiece Just Cause 2 is. It's really just one of the most purely fun game experiences you can have, and since you can pick up the game for just a few bucks right now (and with the new multiplayer mode on PC!) you should absolutely jump in if you haven't already. Just don't forget your parachute.
As for Mad Max, we've waited this long, so what's another year? The game is in the works for PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, Xbox One and PC. Take your time and make something incredible, Avalanche. We know you have it in you.
