Developer Color Gray Games shared a post-launch DLC roadmap ahead of the release of The Rise of the Golden Idol that details the studio's planned new content for the future.
The game is a standalone sequel to the critically acclaimed deductive-themed adventure game The Case of the Golden Idol. The upcoming title builds on the murder-mystery sleuthing mechanics of the first game.
The Rise of the Golden Idol
What it changes is the setting from the 18th century and shifts it to the 1970s and gives players 20 cases of "crime, death, and depravity." The developer said that all of these are somehow connected to each other by the now-lost idol in what was described as an "age of hallucinogens, disco, fax machines, and parapsychology."
Ahead of the official release of The Rise of the Golden Idol, Color Gray Games shared more of what players can expect to see come to the game in the future. There will be four DLC Investigations that are self-contained and will be released throughout next year, according to Eurogamer.

Each of these DLC content will tell a standalone story that features "at least" four cases. Color Gray Games explained that these are optional side content that players do not need in order to conclude the story within The Rise of the Golden Idol. These simply provide more puzzles, characters, and mysteries.
The first of the planned content is titled The Sins of New Wells and is expected to launch in the first quarter of 2025. It will see players following Detective Roy Samson as he investigates four new cases while dealing with an organized crime syndicate that is terrorizing the city.
Planned DLC Investigations
The Rise of the Golden Idol also improves upon its predecessor's visual style but now features much more gore and graphic scenes. While still largely static, a lot of the scenes have looping animation on various details, Polygon said.
The sequel is set to be priced at $19.99 and will have a 10% discount on launch. It will be available on Xbox and PlayStation. It will also come out on the Nintendo Switch and PC via Steam. Later on, mobile users can play The Rise of the Golden Idol if they have a Netflix subscription.
Every single DLC will cost players $5.99 and the $17.99 Detective Pass will include all four planned DLC Investigations. The latter also includes the complete Golden Idol soundtrack for players to listen to.
Color Gray Games said that they had a lot of additional standalone stories that they want to tell that are set in the Golden Idol universe. The DLC Investigations were the best way the studio is able to tell these to players, according to Rock Paper Shotgun.
