Blizzard just announced a new game mode that will be available for a limited time, Overwatch Classic, that brings back the game in its form in 2016.
The new game mode is the latest in a series of efforts by developers to appeal to their veteran fans. This was also something done by Fortnite and World of Warcraft. Overwatch Classic will bring back 6v6 battles in an open queue and many more features.
Overwatch Classic Game Mode
The limited-time game mode will be available from Nov. 12, 2024, to Dec. 2, 2024. Overwatch Classic will return to the original quickplay mode of the version 1.0 release. It also does not impose any hero limits.
The mode only has 21 heroes from the time that the game launched, 12 different maps, but will have patched up hero abilities to modern standards. The main point of Overwatch Classic is to let the developers gain information for future updates and patches, according to Dual Shockers.

Players who feel nostalgic about the good old days of the Overwatch franchise can take advantage of the new limited-time game mode. Some of the builds that make a return include scatter Arrow, powerful ultimates by Mercy, and Torb's ability to share armor with allies.
Overwatch Classic will probably be unrecognizable to people who have only played Overwatch 2 as the latter is now completely different from the original. One more feature that is making a comeback is the assault game mode, which was removed in Overwatch 2.
A Limited Time Event
In its official announcement, Blizzard said that Overwatch Classic is completely separate from the studio's broader plans for a 6v6 mode in Overwatch 2. The limited-time game mode was designed to be a nostalgic experience for veteran fans of the franchise, IGN said.
Blizzard also plans to continuously layer in changes as the Overwatch Classic event progresses, including single hero limits. It noted that future updates will return to "popular moments in the game's history."
The studio then cited the Moth Meta from 2017, where Mercy was considered one of the most broken characters. This was also the time when the triple-tank, triple-support team composition was very popular.
Blizzard is grouping Overwatch Classic heroes in their four original classes, as some have been changed throughout the years. The limited game mode will feature mechanics that let heroes charge up their ultimates a lot faster than they do now in Overwatch 2, according to Blizzard.
