There is a new leak for Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition. It suggests that Microsoft's long-running franchise is set to make its debut on PlayStation consoles.

The rumor comes as Microsoft is planning to bring a lot of its popular franchises to the PlayStation 5 to tap a much larger market. These include Diablo IV and Call of Duty: Black Ops 6.

But a new leak suggests that Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition could join these titles in coming to Sony's modern-generation console. This comes after a thread on Reddit made by user draconis90 showed a screenshot of players having the PlayStation icon next to their usernames in-game.

So far, Microsoft has not yet confirmed whether or not the game is actually coming to PlayStation consoles. Someone also commented that the two players seen in the image were real people.

But for now, it remains a mystery whether or not the two players were actually playing Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition on a PlayStation console. One of the more believable theories for the situation is that they are playtesters or developers trying out the port, according to PlayStation Lifestyle.

There was a report earlier this year that noted that several of Microsoft's games were slated to release on the PlayStation 5. This was all supposedly part of a new directive known as Project Latitude.

A Potential Port

The first set of games include Sea of Thieves, Hi-Fi Rush, Pentiment, and Grounded. The Verge's Tom Warren had sources who also mentioned Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition as another candidate to be brought to Sony's console, which coincides with the recent leak.

The original Age of Empires II game launched in 1999 and got its Definitive Edition version for its 20th anniversary in 2019. While the latest leak brings evidence of a potential PC port, some people have argued that the image simply showed a graphical bug, Insider Gaming said.

The game's Definitive Edition was made with a lot of care and effort while keeping the original in mind. Many fans of the franchise were able to see just how much passion both Microsoft and developer Forgotten Empires had for the game.

Despite this, Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition still came with a few performance issues that players complained about. Even if these hamper the overall gaming experience, people still feel like the remaster was something that was done the right way, according to Xbox Era.
