Square Enix's Naoki Yoshida shared the company's plans to release more games on more platforms simultaneously. This would be the company's plan moving forward.

Yoshida said that they want players to be able to dive into their favorite games on other platforms as well and not just on the PlayStation. The Final Fantasy franchise producer said that the Xbox Series X/S version of various games will be released at the same time.

Square Enix's Multiplatform Strategy

He added that Square Enix plans to release more and more games simultaneously in the future that will be available on each platform. Yoshida said that this is close to the first installment and shared his hopes that Xbox users will play as well.

The news comes as the company released all six games in the Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster series on the Xbox Series X/S in September 2024. Yoshida also said that he wants Final Fantasy XVI to be released on Xbox consoles as well, according to VGChartz.

This comes as the game was previously released for the PlayStation 5 in June 2023 and for PC players via Steam and Epic Games Store in September 2024. Square Enix's shift to a multiplatform strategy comes as it failed to recoup operating and development costs.

The plan focuses on the company's major franchises and various AAA titles, including older intellectual properties in its catalog. The strategy brings the end of Square Enix's timed exclusivity agreements for various games. These include titles in the Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest franchises.

Releasing Games Simultaneously on Multiple Platforms

One of the first games that the studio is planning to launch simultaneously on multiple platforms is FANTASIAN Neo Dimension. The title is expected to come out on Dec. 5, 2024, for Xbox, PlayStation, Nintendo, and PC, Windows Central said.

The game is a definitive edition of a classic Japanese RPG that came even before the Final Fantasy series. Yoshida explained that he expects the Nintendo Switch to become the most popular platform for the upcoming title.

Yoshida also said that he was apologizing to Mistwalkers, the developers of FANTASIAN Neo Dimension. He noted that this was because of the extra work that the team had to do in order to ship the game on multiple platforms.

The Final Fantasy producer also gave fans a tease about his desire to re-release Vagrant Story and Final Fantasy Tactics. He joked around with Horonobu Sakaguchi about the possibility of making a new Parasite Eve game, which made people very hyped, according to Eurogamer.
