Hogwarts Legacy features dozens of different spells. These include the Alohomora spell that lets you pick locks throughout the game.

This spell is required to unlock the vast number of locked areas spread across Hogwarts Legacy's world. You will have encountered a lot of these in the early stages of the game even before you get access to the Alohomora spell, which you can acquire as part of the story.

This guide helps players learn where and when they can get the Alohomora spell and how to successfully pick locks and acquire various rewards.

Getting the Alohomora Spell

Players will be able to learn this particular spell after they reach the main story quest known as "The Caretaker's Lunar Lament." Getting to this point in the story will take roughly three to five hours depending on how fast you complete the previous parts, according to Polygon.

You can start the quest by going to the Grand Staircase's floo flame where you can talk to the caretaker, Gladwin Moon. He will task you with finding Demiguise moons while also getting rid of the statues for him. He is not able to do it himself because he is too scared of them.

He will then teach you the Alohomora spell to allow you to pick the lock into the faculty tower, which is where some Demiguise moons can be found.

Picking Locks in Hogwarts Legacy

After you get the necessary spell, you can go to any of the areas where you can pick locks to try and open them up. Interacting with these will start a generic lockpicking mini-game that can be found in a lot of games.

In Hogwarts Legacy, you will have to rotate the green and red lights until their respective gears start to spin. This is the indication that the lights are placed in the right spot. The outer green ring is for the green light and is connected to the bottom right gear.

On the other hand, the inner red ring is for the red light that is connected to the inner gear, one tip for this mini-game is that the correct spot for the lights can only be at the cardinal and intercardinal positions. This means that they can only be found every 45 degrees.

Upgrading the Alohomora Spell

You can also upgrade this spell to Level II and Level III which lets you unlock higher-level locks in the game. You can do this by collecting Demiguise Statues during the "The Man Behind The Moons" side quest, IGN said.

This side quest is unlocked after you complete The Caretaker's Lunar Lament main story quest. Level II is unlocked for finding nine Demiguise Statues and Level III can be acquired after finding 13 more Demiguise Statues for a total of 22.

Lock Picking Tips

One major tip for picking locks in Hogwarts Legacy is to focus on the green dial first and work on it until you see a green spark. You should then hold the right stick in that position and slowly turn the left stick to move the red dial.

You continue this movement until you see the red spark in the red gears within the center of the lock. Hold the left stick in that position and simply wait for the unlocking animation to be over to view your rewards, according to AltChar.
