Frostpunk 2 recently came out as the sequel to 11 bit studios' post-apocalyptic survival city-builder. The new game challenges players even more with difficult survival decisions.

The city builder received critical acclaim because of its amazing mix of society management, roleplaying elements, and challenging strategic gameplay. People who played the original game have a rough understanding of what to expect in the sequel.

The main thing that players need to do in this game is to properly manage their resources. The early game is especially important because it could snowball into the late game.

This guide gives out some tips and tricks on how to gather resources in the early stages. This article also recommends some things to prioritize so you can have a much more manageable time later on.

Coal

The first resource that players should focus on is coal because, in Frostpunk 2, heat is crucial to your survival. The main way that you can gather this resource is by looking for coal seams through frostbreaking, according to Game Rant.

After this, you should be constantly researching technology to keep up with your society's demands for heat. Each game in Frostpunk 2 can be lengthy, which means that storing a lot of coal in the early game will help you manage your city better later on.

Food

Another important resource in Frostpunk 2 is food, which is how you keep your people fed and alive. The biggest challenge in the early stages of the game is managing your rate of gathering food with how fast your society consumes it.

In the beginning, the latter will most likely outpace the speed at which you can get new meat. This means that you should look into storing food as much as you can to keep your people from starving.

You need to frostbreak for fertile soil and frostbreak around established food sources to maximize your food production. Making preliminary frostbreaks can allow you to secure further sources where fertile soil could be located.

Transferring Resources

After gathering your resources, you should learn how to transfer what you got from your colony to your city. If you look at the upper right corner of your screen, you will see the weather forecast ticker, PCGamer said.

Right next to the expeditions icon, you can see an icon for any colony that you have founded. Double-click on this to take you to the colony. But a single click will open a simple dropdown menu.

This will show the name of the colony and there are two important icons on the menu bar you should be aware of. One is a box with arrows that point to either side and the other is like people with the same arrows.

The first lets you select the amount of resources you want to transfer between your colony and your city. The second icon allows you to transfer workforce instead if you need to manage what work your people have to do.

Other General Tips

There are a lot of moving parts to Frostpunk 2 and failing at any point can serve as a learning moment for your next run. One thing you should practice is thinking forward and planning ahead for what you might need.

Each decision will inevitably affect your late game and how easy or difficult it will be for you to keep your society up and running. Usually, decisions that have short-term benefits have long-term drawbacks.

Another thing to be cautious about is your city layout, which can have significant impacts on your success or failure. Make sure to scan what resources are available so you can strategize and know what to prioritize, according to Epic Games.
