PlayStation's 30th Anniversary: Sony Shares Plans for Soundtracks, New Board Game

Sony highlighted its plans for PlayStation's 30th anniversary celebration this year. The company will release new soundtracks and a new board game.

PlayStation's journey began on December 3, 1994, when the first console launched in Japan. For three decades since, Sony has provided games to players worldwide.

PlayStation's 30th Anniversary

Celebrations are set to begin this month. Events include a free online multiplayer period and an esports tournament. The tournament will run from September 21 to 22, 2024. Sony will also produce PlayStation-themed toys for the occasion.

During the event, players who own any PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 game can play online multiplayer without a PlayStation Plus subscription.

The tournament will feature challenges in games like EA UFC 5, Tekken 8, and Guilty Gear Strive, according to Eurogamer.

Specific details of the tournament will be published at a later date via the PlayStation Competition Center. You can also win a special 30th anniversary avatar and other game-specific prizes.

If you are interested in joining the tournament, you can sign up to compete via the PlayStation 5's Game Hub or the in-game PlayStation Tournaments button. In regards to the digital soundtracks, there will be a new track released each month between October and January.

PlayStation also shared a first look at a 30th anniversary photo opportunity located in the new Astro Bot game's central hub. This is where Bots players have saved throughout their adventures will stay, said the PlayStation Blog.

One of the plans that Sony has for the celebrations is for Gran Turismo 7, where there will be a trial version designed to attract diverse players of all skill levels to the franchise. The release will include some of fans' favorite vehicles, tracks, and race events.

Players will also be able to vibe with Sony's specially curated PlayStation 30th Anniversary playlist that can be found on Spotify. This features some of the most-streamed music by PlayStation gamers worldwide.

You can also expect a new collection of products known as "Shapes of Play" that was crafted by the team behind the design of the PlayStation consoles. This will give players a chance to create fun moments with Sony's iconic shapes.

Sony has unveiled new products to mark PlayStation's 30th anniversary. Among these is a board game called Shapes of Play: Battle. In this game, players compete to align four matching colored shapes on the game board. The goal is to be the first to achieve this alignment.
