Tilting Point, a US-based free-to-play games publisher that was founded in 2012, is laying off up to a fifth of its workforce over "market conditions."
The numbers mean that the studio will be cutting off up to 90 people's jobs as part of plans to reduce its overall headcount by up to 20%. Tilting Point, which is a prolific mobile game publisher, has roughly 450 workers across its offices in Boston, Barcelona, Kyiv, Los Angeles, New York, Seoul, and San Diego.
Tilting Point's Layoffs
The studio's biggest releases include Star Trek Timelines, Star Trek Legends, SpongeBob: Krusty Cook-Off, Narcos, Hidden Hotel, and Astrokings. Furthermore, Tilting Studios also has several titles available through Netflix and Apple Arcade.
Tilting Point also released a statement through a PR representative that was apparently written by founder and CEO Kevin Segalla. He said that anyone who is watching the video games industry is acutely aware of how tough the current market conditions are, according to MobileGamer.
Segalla noted that the studio has done everything that it could in order to maintain the shape of its business for as long as possible.
However, he argued that they have already come to a point where they have been forced to make some difficult decisions so that they could continue operating a healthy ongoing company.

The Tilting Point CEO also noted that the decisions include layoffs of some of the studio's amazing colleagues in different parts of the organization. Segalla said that these work cuts could affect up to 20% of their global team.
The development comes as the studio had previously conducted layoffs in January of last year when it cut work for more than 60 staff, who represented roughly 14% of its global workforce. The layoffs were made as Tilting Point restructures and adopts a new strategy, said PocketGamer.
Changing Market Conditions
At the time, the company said that a great strength of the studio has been its adaptability to changing market conditions and focusing on new opportunities. It noted that the video games industry has been undergoing significant changes and rapid evolution.
Tilting Point also said last year that the decision to lay people off was difficult and not something that they took lightly. It noted that the colleagues who were affected were talented and passionate and have contributed greatly to the success of the studio.
The last layoffs affected members of Tilting Point's web3 division, product management team, and Star Trek Timelines developer Wicked Realm Games, according to GamesIndustry.
