Honkai: Star Rail is a free-to-play turn-based RPG made by Genshin Impact creator HoYoverse that is a highly popular live-service game among fans of the genre.

A lot of newcomers to the game get overwhelmed with just how much stuff you can actually do and what you need to do to get stronger faster. This guide helps players understand where they should be starting and what they need to focus on in the early game.

Focus on the Main Story First

Honkai: Star Rail introduces players to a lot of complicated concepts down the line but you should first focus on the main story to get yourself comfortable. The game will eventually show you more of its systems over time.

Especially in the early stages, it's best not to overwhelm yourself with the game's more complicated concepts, such as Echoes of War and Stagnant Shadows. You should start with the Trailblaze Missions to progress the campaign story, according to PushSquare.

Learn Combat Basics

This is a turn-based RPG and is relatively straightforward compared to other games in the genre. Every single enemy has a selection of Elemental weaknesses that you can take advantage of.

This would also allow players to "break" their defenses much faster to stagger them and delay their actions. Every turn, you can perform a Basic Attack or a Skill, where the former generates a Skill Point and the latter uses up a Skill Point.

Complete Your Dailies

There are a lot of things that Hokai: Star Rail players can do every day that will net rewards and experience. These include Daily Training, Assignments, spending Trailblaze Power, Battle Pass challenges, and logging in to HoYoLab, said Eurogamer.

One thing to note is that aside from the HoYoLab rewards and Trailblaze Power, all of the game's daily activities reset at 4:00 a.m. server time. While it is not necessary to do any of these, they are highly recommended to get you some useful rewards and bonuses.

Learn To Use Technique

In Honkai: Star Rail, you should always initiate a battle by using a character's Technique ability that will start the fight in your favor. This is because you will have already harmed your opponent or given your team a buff.

The game gives players three Technique points, which means that you have to keep an eye out for purple containers between battles to replenish them. Furthermore, as Technique Points are shared between teammates, you only really need one with a strong Technique to use, according to IGN.
