Movie and TV show projects based on the highly popular Alan Wake and Control video games are happening thanks to a new partnership between Annapurna Interactive and Remedy Entertainment.

The announcement of the new partnership is good news for fans of the Alan Wake and Control universes. Remedy Entertainment said that they will work on film, TV, and "other audiovisual formats" based on the two franchises. Furthermore, the deal will help fund the upcoming Control 2 game.

Alan Wake and Control TV and Movie Projects

The two studios revealed in a press release that Annapurna Interactive will serve as a co-production and co-financing partner on Control 2. On the other hand, Remedy Entertainment will keep its focus on developing that and other games while its new partner takes the lead on multimedia adaptations.

In a statement, the former head of the Unreal Engine games business at Epic and recently-named president of interactive and new media at Annapurna, Hector Sanchez, talked about the new partnership.

He said that the deal with Remedy Entertainment is not only about adapting great games but is also about breaking new ground in how companies can collaborate, according to IGN.

Sanchez added that by supporting Remedy Entertainment's move toward self-publishing, Annapurna Interactive is putting its faith in the former's vision. He said that they know from experience that the former is a first-class games development partner.

Remedy Entertainment CEO Tero Virtala said that the studio's focus will be crafting industry-defining video games. He noted that this was the right time to expand the reach of its beloved franchises to an even broader global audience through film, television, and more.

Virtala added that they found an outstanding partner in Annapurna Interactive as they share their ambition and passion for immersive storytelling. He said that they are excited to see the latter bring the universes and characters they have created to life in new mediums, said Variety.

A New Partnership

The partnership between the two studios comes as Annapurna Interactive's latest live-action feature, Nightbitch, is set to premiere at the Toronto Film Festival. The studio's other recent titles include Nimona, an Oscar-nominated animated film, and Prime Video's Dead Ringers series.

Sanchez's return to Annapurna Interactive will have him working with CEO Megan Ellison to develop IP across multiple platforms. On top of this, Paul Doyle joined the studio as head of strategy.

Ellison, who founded Annapurna Interactive, said that Hollywood storytelling was evolving to new platforms. She argued that today, people are falling in love with characters and universes and not formats, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
