Developer Striking Distance and publisher Krafton revealed a brand new game, [REDACTED], that marks the return of The Callisto Protocol as a roguelike dungeon crawler game.

The new game is set in the universe of The Callisto Protocol and it is described as "punk rock." Players take control of a lone security guard in [REDACTED] who is trying to make it out alive of the Black Iron Prison.

Roguelike Dungeon Crawler [REDACTED] Announced

This particular prison is the one that was seen in the original game's Jovian correctional facility. In The Callisto Protocol, players had to slither and skulk through cramped and shadowy corridors while fending off mutant convicts.

But in [REDACTED], you battle hordes of colorful monsters in what looks to be Hades-inspired arena brawls. The announcement trailer also gave players a glimpse of skills that can be upgraded, weapons to equip, and various suits to loot, according to Rock Paper Shotgun.

In a press release, [REDACTED] was described as a game that is all about fighting, dying, dying again, and dying some more, while also adapting. The game takes the classic roguelike formula and cranks it up a notch.

One particular feature that was shown in the announcement trailer is that when players die, their previous characters will come back in future runs having all of the equipment and abilities they had at the time that they passed.

[REDACTED] was previously known as Project Birdseye and was recently fully revealed during the Xbox stream at Gamescom 2024. The developer and publisher also shared an Oct. 31, 2024, release date for the game, said IGN.

The upcoming roguelike dungeon crawler promises to feature unlimited replayability, strategic build metas, progression through death, powerful upgrades, and speed-running challenges.

The official synopsis for the game says that it takes players deep into the Black Iron Prison that is found on Jupiter's icy moon, Callisto.

Set in The Callisto Protocol Universe

It continued to say that the inmates within the facility have been left infected and mutating and the security systems are indiscriminate. Furthermore, other survivors are also trying to escape by any means necessary.

Since you are not the only one trying to escape this mutant-infested facility, you will have to fight off some correctional services colleagues who are eager to get to the last escape pod. In their desperation, they will attack you remotely or challenge to to a one-on-one duel.

But even when players have created the perfect build, battled through countless bosses, run through your rivals, and everything else, there is still one thing you can do.

This is to risk it all in one last hardcore do-or-die run back through the prison where you can unlock powerful permanent gear, according to Gematsu.
