Stardew Valley is a farming life sim that features a fishing system that could be tricky to master for some people, particularly those who are new to the game itself.

Catching fish is one of the fastest ways to make some serious cash in the game and it is a crucial skill that you should master to help your farm thrive. It becomes even more important if you choose to take the Community Center route and need to complete bundles.

When you get the fishing rod in Stardew Valley, you can immediately start getting some fish from any body of water in the game. After you pick a spot, simply use your fishing rod to start catching some fish.

A meter will shop up by your character's hand when first throwing the line out which determines how far it will go. Red is the closest while green is the farthest and in most cases, you'd rather it go far, according to Dexerto.

When a fish finally bites your line, there will be an alert sound, and the word "HIT!" will appear on-screen. You will have to quickly press the tool button for the fishing rod again to initiate the actual catching mini-game.

During this mini-game, there will be a moving green bar with a fish inside and your goal is to keep it in the green section at all times until the progress bar fills up. If the fish swims out of the area, the bar will decrease and if it completely drains, you will lose your catch.

Other than the basics of fishing, there are also some other things to keep in mind that will make your quest to become the best angler even easier. One example is upgrading your fishing rod as quickly as possible so that you can catch more types of fish, said AndroidAuthority.

Another thing to keep an eye out for is bubbling spots on bodies of water as this is where you should cast your line. These spots are where fish usually spawn and will bite your line much quicker than normal.

You can also use food to temporarily increase your fishing level in order to help with fishing certain types of fish. The best dishes for this are Dish O' The Sea, Fish Stew, Lobster Bisque, and Seafoam Pudding.

Bait, while not necessarily needed when fishing, does make the effort that much easier just like in real life. In the early stages, you won't have access to bait as you need to have level 2 Fishing first to get the Fiberglass Rod, according to CBR.
