The developer behind Marvel Snap, Second Dinner Studios, has formed a strategic partnership with W4 Games in an effort to work on the "most ambitious Godot game yet."

The announcement of the investment comes as Second Dinner Studios is looking to accelerate the development of the Godot Engine. W4 Games was first established in 2021 by Godot vets Juan Linietsky, Remi Verschelde, and Fabio Alessandrelli.

The company was started in an effort to go "all-in on the creation of an ecosystem with the Godot Engine at its center." In December last year, the studio was able to raise $15 million and is still committed to helping developers "reclaim their control on the technology powering their games."

Now, Second Dinner Studios wants to extend a helping hand by entering into a multi-year strategic partnership agreement with W4 Games. In a statement by the studio's chief development officer, Ben Brode, he said that they are excited to partner with W4 Games, according to GameDeveloper.

On the other hand, W4 Games said that there were more than 2,000 commercial Godot titles that were published last year. It noted that this indicated "accelerating adoption" among developers.

The studio also said that the open-source engine can "challenge well-established proprietary solutions" in order to become the go-to source for new franchises and multiplayer titles.

The creator of the Godot Engine, Linietsky, who is also W4 Games' co-CEO, said that the company will work with Second Dinner Studios to ensure that its future projects are successful.

W4 Games is responsible for providing products and services to facilitate the development and commercialization of video game titles that are made with the Godot Engine. The open-source engine has a permissive license (MIT) and is on a fast learning curve, said VentureBeat.

Making Godot the Go-To Engine

With Godot's strong growth rate as of late, the open-source engine has climbed the ranking of the video games industry. W4 Games co-CEO, Nicola Farronato, said that when they formed the studio years ago, the vision was to make Godot the "game engine of choice" for superstar game developers.

Farronato also said that the recent deal was an exciting prospect for the future of the Godot Engine as Second Dinner Studios represents W4 Games' vision. Linietsky said that the Marvel Snap developer has also been an inspiration for him.

He described it as a company that is never afraid to break new ground in all senses, adding that it is a pleasure to work with the studio moving forward, according to PocketGamer.
