Dead by Daylight's crossover collaboration with the Castlevania franchise will officially arrive on Aug. 27, 2024, but players can get a chance to play a public test build today.

The collaboration will feature Dracula joining the asymmetrical multiplayer horror game as a new killer. He will be accompanied by his power-granting castle because both are said to be "inextricably linked."

Developer Behaviour Interactive also noted that any time Dracula is the featured killer in a trial with an original map, players will be able to see his castle looming over proceedings. The arrival of the vampiric icon also marks Dead by Daylight's first-ever shape-shifting killer.

Dracula is able to transform himself into a bat and wolf and the former is described as "quiet as a creeping shadow" and can gain ground "with a blink." Practically speaking, this means that Dracula has the Undetectable status effect whenever he is in bat mode, according to Eurogamer.

On top of this, he also gets an increase in his movement speed, can ignore vault points, and teleport to any points within 32 meters. On the other hand, Survivors become invisible but their scratch marks can still be seen.

The wolf mode instead increases Dracula's movement speed and he gains a "keen nose for fresh blood." This means that pools and scratch marks are more apparent and Survivors will leave a trail of Scent Orbs as they walk around that Dracula can collect to charge a powerful pounce attack.

On top of adding Dracula, Dead by Daylight's collaboration with the Castlevania series also brings Trevor Belmont as one of the game's Survivors. The developer said that Trevor's skill set in the game includes an "innate ability to seek out allies and work as part of a team," said Polygon.

Dracula's Vampiric Powers as a Killer

The collaboration between Dead by Daylight and the Castlevania series is part of a recent trend for Konami in loaning out its characters and intellectual property. This is particularly true for those inspired by its most famous franchise.

In a press release, Dead by Daylight creative director Dave Richard explained that they wanted to create fluidity in the way that players can have Dracula change between different forms. He added that when he first played Symphony of the Night, possessing vampiric powers was "absolutely amazing."

He added that allowing players to be able to take control of The Dark Lord within Dead by Daylight was an "alluring and unique" opportunity for them, according to IGN.
