Dead by Daylight Spinoff, The Casting of Frank Stone, Gets Official Release Date

The Casting of Frank Stone, a spinoff of popular online survival game Dead by Daylight has finally gotten an official release date and players can expect to get their hands on it in September.

The upcoming title is developer Supermassive Games' attempt at a single-player narrative-driven horror game set in the Dead by Daylight universe. The exact release date for the game is Sept. 3, 2024, and the studio shared a new trailer to give players a proper introduction to the main cast.

The Casting of Frank Stone will star five characters; Christine Gordon, Jaime Rivera, Linda Castle, Robert Green, and Bonnie Rivera, who are all teenagers. These people will film their own horror movie in an abandoned steel mill.

Unfortunately, the mill that they went to is tied to a notorious murderer named Frank Stone, and the innocent art project will go horribly wrong. Despite the game getting an official release date, there is not much information that is known about it, according to GameInformer.

So far, what players do know is that The Casting of Frank Stone is set within the world of Dead by Daylight and takes place in the town of Cedar Mills during the summer of 1980.

But regarding its gameplay, it will follow in the footsteps of Supermassive Games' other titles in that it is a choice-driven adventure.

The release date for The Casting of Frank Stone was revealed in a blog post where Supermassive Games detailed Dead by Daylight's new playable character, Lara Croft. The trailer that accompanied the announcement showed how the upcoming title is a spin on classic horror flicks from the past.

When the story of the game takes a turn for the worse, the teenagers realize that they are now living in a real slash-style horror movie as they fight to survive. You will be able to play as several characters in The Casting of Frank Stone.

A Dead by Daylight Spinoff

Last year, Behaviour Interactive initially announced that Supermassive Games was working on a story-based Dead by Daylight spinoff. However, fans of the franchise had to wait until the 2023 Game Awards which was held in December 2023 to see the official reveal of The Casting of Frank Stone, said IGN.

The Casting of Frank Stone marks the third time that a spinoff of Dead by Daylight was made and follows Hooked on You, a dating sim released in 2022, and What the Fog, a co-op roguelike that was released last May.

On top of this, Behaviour Interactive is reportedly working on a new untitled Dead by Daylight spinoff that is currently known as codename Project T.

An official description of The Casting of Frank Stone reads that players will have to decide the teenagers' fates, develop their relationships, and guide the shoot of Murder Mill.

It adds that the game will provide players with a dark branching narrative where their decisions "pen the script." The only thing that stands between life and death for a group of young filmmakers is what you choose to do, according to Insider Gaming.
