This autumn, Moomins from Tove Jansson will join thatgamecompany's free-to-play game Sky: Children of the Light. The announcement came during Skyfest Japan 2024, and the update will include new chapters each week.

Moomins Crossover Announced
Sky: Children of the Light, a cozy and social adventure game from thatgamecompany, is set to feature a crossover with the Moomin franchise this autumn. The announcement was made by CEO and Creative Director Jenova Chen during Skyfest Japan 2024. This event is a celebration of the game for fans both online and in-person. Players can look forward to new chapters each week throughout the season, bringing content from the Moomin world into the game.
The game, which launched on iOS in 2019 and later expanded to PC and consoles, is known for its leisurely puzzle adventures set in a beautiful kingdom among the clouds. Sky: Children of the Light emphasizes compassion, friendship, and altruism through its gently collaborative multiplayer design. It follows a live-service-style seasonal model, often featuring collaborations with other properties and artists. Previous seasons have included themes from The Little Prince and music artist Aurora.
New Animated Series Update
In addition to the Moomin collaboration, thatgamecompany shared more news about its upcoming animated series, Sky: The Two Embers. Initially announced in 2022, the series is now scheduled for release next year. Sky: Children of the Light will feature two seasons based on the series' twin stories, Dawn and Dusk Ember, in 2025. A new trailer and a clip from the first episode were shown during Skyfest Japan 2024, with the footage currently available only through the event's in-game stream.
The new Moomin season in Sky: Children of the Light will start in Fall 2024. Players can explore Moominvalley and experience an adaptation of the 1962 tale, The Invisible Child. This season will focus on themes of self-discovery and overcoming childhood obstacles, reflecting the cross-cultural themes of family, friendship, and introspection found in Moomin stories.
Sky: Children of the Light is available for free on PS4, PS5, Nintendo Switch, PC via Steam, iOS, and Android.
