Murky Divers, a game that is currently in early access after being developed by Embers studio and published by Oro Interactive, has sold more than 100,000 copies in less than a month.
The publisher said that the underwater co-op title had been a successful debut title for it as well as the developer. It became such a hit that Oro Interactive founder Sam De Boeck said that the company will focus on "catchy, content-creator-focused games."
Murky Divers' Early Access Success
He specifically noted the publisher's interest in the horror genre and the latest title is unmistakably inspired by the success of Content Warning and Lethal Company. The latter two games have seen commercial and viral success earlier this year.
De Boeck said that for potential partners, Oro Interactive will take a "smaller-than-usual" revenue share. He also cited Kowloon Nights' business strategy as the company will have no recoupment period and revenue will go directly to the developer first, according to GameDeveloper.
The latter information is something that is particularly worth noting because not all publishers, whether big or small, are transparent with where their revenue goes.
Electronic Arts, in May, reportedly diverted all of Immortals of Aveum's net revenue to developer Ascendant Studios. However, that report was later scrubbed and was never mentioned again.
The Oro Interactive founder said that developers keep intellectual property and sequel rights, adding that creative and business decisions are theirs to make. He also noted that all sources of revenue flow directly to the studio before it is shared with them.

The developer touted the relative success of Murky Divers, which was released in early access on PC via Steam on June 19, 2024. It posted on social media, thanking the player base for its strong support and commitment to the title.
The studio then took the time to remind players that the game's first major update is coming on July 19, 2024, exactly a month from its early access release, said VGChartz.
An Underwater Survival Game
In Murky Divers, you and your friends are in charge of a submarine that you will need to pilot using sonar and a giant compass that is mounted in front of the steering wheel. This is because the underwater vessel does not have a third-person cam or forward-facing viewing ports.
You and your friends will pilot the submarine towards "abandoned" seafloor laboratories where you will have to clear up the results of various experiments that have gone wrong. You will need to retrieve any and all dead boffins back to your vessel that has an all-purpose shredder.
However, you will also have to do your best not to lose your own life during the process as there are various hazards in the laboratories. These include sparking sockets and "abyssal terrors" such as octopuses that have grinning demon faces, according to Rock Paper Shotgun.
In order to finish your job of cleaning up while still keeping yourself intact, you can use hard-earned credits to purchase items and modules. These will help you increase your chances of surviving your next expeditions.
