Battlefield 2042 Sees Player Surge with Dead Space Event, Mixed Reviews Follow

The Dead Space event boosted Battlefield 2042's player count, doubling it after the event started on June 9. Despite the increase, player feedback has been mixed, with some disappointed by the content.

The Dead Space crossover event has brought a surge of players to Battlefield 2042. The event, which started on June 9, introduced exclusive cosmetics and a new game mode called Outbreak. As a result, Battlefield 2042 saw its player count rise significantly, though not everyone is happy with the new content.

Player Count Doubles with New Event

Before the Dead Space event, Battlefield 2042 had around 10,000 active players on Steam. This number had dwindled compared to its peak. However, the crossover event caused a notable increase, with the player count surpassing 20,000 for the first time in months. On June 9, the game saw a peak of 27,438 players, a number not reached since March. This suggests that the event successfully attracted players back to the game.

Mixed Reactions from Players

Despite the increase in player numbers, not all feedback has been positive. Some players feel the event does not live up to its potential.

On the Battlefield 2042 Steam forum, users expressed disappointment with the event, noting that the enemies did not resemble those from Dead Space and that the event was buggy and too easy. On the game's subreddit, similar sentiments were shared, with threads questioning the quality of the event.

The main issue appears to be a mismatch between expectations and reality. Instead of fighting Necromorphs in iconic Dead Space locations, players face zombie-like foes known as the Geist on Earth. Many feel that the event's main attraction is the paid cosmetic options rather than the gameplay itself.

The Battlefield 2042 and Dead Space event runs until July 16, giving players a limited time to experience the crossover.
