Uncharacteristically, Nintendo shared a short 15-second teaser that bordered on creepy and was simply known as "Emio" which could be a new horror game.
So far, there is not much known about what the Japanese company has planned for the new tease and the description on the video asks "Who is Emio?" There is also a Japanese website that has gone up and only showcases the same creepy image of a man wearing a paper bag with a smiley face on it.
Nintendo's Creepy Emio Teaser
But the website comes along with the word "笑み男," which is roughly translated to "smiling man," which perfectly describes what is being shown. Following the teaser trailer, many users have taken to social media platforms to talk about the news.
Nintendo UK's upload also comes with a brief warning that said, "This video contains scenes that some viewers may find disturbing. Viewer discretion is advised." Many fans are talking about just how odd this sort of creepy vibe is for the Japanese company, according to NintendoLife.
The hype that the Emio trailer generated is partly due to Nintendo's own reputation in the video game industry. Despite horror-themed films and games being deliberately vague and sudden in their reveals, this is not something that is typically seen with the Japanese company.
So far, there is also no information about who is actually making Emio or whatever it's supposed to be. There are already people who are speculating that based on the fact that there is an official Nintendo website, it could be a first-party game, which makes it an even weirder situation.

Many also pointed out on social media platforms that noted horror developer Bloober Team announced just two days ago that it was working on so-called "Project M." The game is apparently coming to Nintendo platforms and is expected to get an announcement sometime this year.
Some people are speculating that these two things could be the same thing but for now, only time will tell whether or not the fans are correct in their assumptions, said IGN.
Fueling Speculations on Social Media
Fans of the Japanese company also joked that the Emio teaser trailer is simply just edgy viral marketing for the Nintendo Switch 2. There are also those who are tossing around Hideo Kojima's name in the discussion.
Nintendo rarely dips its hands into horror themes outside of the Luigi's Mansion franchise, which is still relatively filled with comic relief. So far, the most prominent examples of the company exploring the genre are M-rated games such as Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requiem and Fatal Frame: Maiden of Black Water.
These two games were developed by third parties and published by Nintendo and some fans are talking about how Emio could be something new from Koei Tecmo's Fatal Frame team. But there is no solid evidence to support those claims.
In 2023, when the Bloober Team revealed that it was working on Project M, it added that it was collaborating with studio Draw Distance. However, the latter has since been removed from that project altogether, with some speculating it could be working with Nintendo, according to Polygon.
