Dota 2 Update Adds 2D Fighting Minigame Sleet Fighter Playable Inside the MOBA

Dota 2 Update Adds 2D Fighting Minigame Sleet Fighter Playable Inside the MOBA

Valve's latest update for its popular MOBA, Dota 2, introduced a lot of changes to the game but most importantly also added a 2D fighting minigame known as Sleet Fighter.

The game comes with the July 9, 2024, update to Dota 2 that came as part of the game's larger Crownfall season, which is the new way that Valve is delivering updates and rewards. The event is split up into different acts and the company released Act Three on Tuesday.

The next big patch for Dota 2 included a tiny but impressively well-made fighting game that features a few characters from the MOBA as well as some locations. Sleet Fighter currently features five characters and each one has a full move list.

The 2D fighting game inside Dota 2 also supports both single-player modes and a multiplayer option that lets you play either online against friends or locally using a second controller.

There are already a lot of gameplay clips of Sleet Fighter posted on YouTube and X, formerly known as Twitter, according to Kotaku.

Sleet Fighter does not seem to have been made in a rush but looks to have been properly designed and even has leaderboards and its own rewards. It has become an actual fighting game because people have already started to make their own tier lists and are arguing over them in the comments.

Despite the sudden popularity of the 2D fighting game, some players are disappointed that it will eventually leave Dota 2 after Crownfall is over in October. It seems like all of the work and effort that Valve has put into the game will be a waste sooner rather than later.

However, some are holding on to the hope that Valve will keep the 2D fighting game moving forward due to the positive feedback that it has gotten so far. The situation may also convince the studio to invest a bit more into it and let it live on as a free fighting game in Dota 2.

The Latest Crownfall Update

The five characters that are so far included in Sleet Fighter are Marci, Bristleback, Tusk, Vengeful Spirit, and Dawnbreaker. On top of having full move lists, each character also has their own alternate skins, said PCGamer.

On top of the 2D fighting minigame, the latest update for Dota 2 also included a new overworld map for players to explore and has all the usual cosmetics and stories.

Act three brings a brand new collector's cache lootbox that features cosmetic items that got the most votes in the latest round of community voting.

Some of the sets that won look visually stunning and have forced Valve to add a new arcana slot to both Juggernaut and Pudge. The new slots will let players equip that particular hero's arcana item alongside other sets.

This means that if you get one of the rare drops from the cache, you can still use the arcana with them. But the new Sleet Fighter is the more talked about thing in the latest update and some speculate that it was added in response to Riot Games' 2XKO, according to Forbes.
