It was announced by Marvel Studios right after Captain America: The Winter Soldier debuted that the untitled Captain America 3 would be debuting on May 6, 2016. But that date is shared by another red-and-blue-wearing superhero and his all black-wearing pal... a little indie film called Batman vs. Superman.
Obviously, if both films stick with the date they'll more or less murder each other at the box office. Very few people would actually go see both on opening weekend, so they'd be cannibalizing their own sales by releasing on the same day.
Both Marvel and DC were initially stubborn about moving their respective films, but now it seems like Marvel might already be having some regrets after only a couple of weeks.
Variety reporter Brent Lang was at the Tribeca Film Festival, where Disney Studios chairman Alan Horn was speaking. Horn said the following:
"We'll see. We're struggling with it" Alan Horn on #CaptainAmerica3 debuting against #BatmanvsSuperman

It'll be interesting to see how this all unfolds. Obviously Marvel was second to the party as far as the date goes, so maybe they'll concede due to DC calling "dibs." Personally, I kind of hope they both stick with the dates, because I'm the type of sucker that would go to see both in the same weekend if that's what it came down to.
