Outbreak Event Details
The Outbreak event adds a unique twist to Battlefield 2042. Players will get to play as an engineer similar to Isaac Clarke from Dead Space. EA and Dice described the event as a test of squads' resilience and resourcefulness against new, relentless enemies in the Boreas laboratory.
The first trailer for the event shows enemies that are a mix between Necromorphs and standard zombies. Players will have to use different weapons, not the usual Plasma Cutter, to defeat these enemies. The event promises to be intense and action-packed.
Rewards and Purchasable Items
During the Dead Space crossover event, players can earn free rewards like a new weapon charm, a skin, a player card background, and a tag. There will also be a purchasable bundle called the Dead Space-themed bundle. This bundle includes a legendary specialist outfit called Marked Man, three legendary weapon skins, and more, available for 2200 BFC.
Season 7: Turning Point
The Outbreak event is part of Season 7: Turning Point, which is the final seasonal content update for Battlefield 2042. EA announced in April that this season would be the last, allowing the team to focus on the future of the franchise.
Battlefield general manager Byron Beede mentioned that while this news might disappoint some fans, it was necessary to shift resources to future projects. The team aims to build a connected universe for the series, although specific details remain unknown. Earlier this year, game director Marcus Lehto left EA, and his studio, Ridgeline Games, was closed soon after.
Despite a rough start in 2021, Battlefield 2042 has seen frequent updates and support from EA and Dice.
