Batman: Arkham Series Inspires New Animated Film, Batman: Assault on Arkham [TRAILER]

New DC Animated Film, Batman: Assault on Arkham, Takes Cues from Warner Bros.' Batman: Arkham Game Series

It's without a doubt that the Batman: Arkham games finally gave Gotham's dark knight the video game he and the fans deserved. As some of the most successful games of the last few years, of course DC would try to re-create its success in other mediums. So, we now have "Batman: Assault on Arkham" to look forward to.

The direct-to-video animated flick is set to release later this year. Taking place in the same Arkham-verse as the games, "Assault" centers around Task Force X, perhaps better known as the Suicide Squad. If you're unfamiliar with the group, it's traditionally comprised of any number of super villains, formed by the U.S. government to complete extraordinarily dangerous missions, hence the name. In return for completing the mission at hand, they'll get a reduced sentence. If they don't happen to make it through, well, there won't be many tears from the public for their demise.

The roster has changed several times over, but this particularly squad is made up of a number of Batman's extensive rogues gallery - Harley Quinn, Deadshot, Killer Frost, Black Spider, King Shark and Captain Boomerang. The exact plot isn't clear, but it looks like the Squad will be heading into Arkham Asylum to find out where in Gotham City the Joker has managed to hide a dirty bomb, and possibly put the clown down for good. Of course, Batman can't let that stand, so expect him to try and throw a monkey wrench into their plans. Check out the trailer below.

Hear anything familiar? You should. The flick sees a number of the Arkham games' voice actors reprise their roles, with Kevin Conroy, Martin Jarvis, and Troy Baker returning as Batman, Alfred, and the Joker respectively. Interestingly, Tara Strong was replaced by Hynden Walch for the role of Harley, but as she's played the role before in "The Batman" TV series, it shouldn't be too much of a noticeable change for fans.

We'll keep you posted when we get an official release date.
