Days Gone Sequel: Developers Reveal New Map, Concept Art After Weeks of Work

Since Days Gone concluded, post-apocalyptic game lovers have eagerly awaited a continuation of its freaker-infested open world, driven by its cliffhanger ending. Despite critics bashing the Bend Studios title for technical issues and a slow start, many PlayStation fans embraced it. Over the past few years, these dedicated fans have even created a petition, urging Sony to develop Days Gone 2.

Unseen Sequel Plans Revealed

Despite the game's success, selling around 9 million copies and overtaking Ghost of Tsushima's 8 million sales, hopes for a sequel seemed dashed. Days Gone writer and creator, John Garvin, and its game director Jeff Ross have been vocal about their disappointment and frustration. Recently, Garvin shared how far he had gone with the sequel's development.

In a post on social media platform X, John Garvin responded to a question about pitching a sequel to PlayStation management. Garvin revealed that before Sony let him go after Days Gone, Jeff Ross had another writer lined up to take his place. However, Garvin had already prepared extensive material for Days Gone 2, including "a script, outline, map, and concept art."

Slim Chances for a Sequel

Garvin also mentioned that the team had intended to create a trilogy, not just a sequel. Despite being let go by Sony, Garvin still holds a small hope for a sequel, although he acknowledged that it would ultimately be up to Sony. Garvin tweeted, "Management at Sony could change their minds and bring me and @JakeRocket back for a sequel... I'm cautiously optimistic." He added, "I've fully outlined the sequel and expanded the game's world map."

Despite Garvin's optimism, Jeff Ross dismissed rumors of a sequel, affirming, "It won't happen. Sony higher-ups like Hermen were never fans, so it won't feature at PlayStation State of Play or beyond." Ross clarified, "The project is shelved for now, not indefinitely canceled."
