Pepper Grinder is Coming to PlayStation, Xbox Consoles Later This Year

Pepper Grinder, a highly popular indie platformer title released on Nintendo Switch and PC via Steam, will be coming to PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S later this year.

The game's developer, Ahr Ech, and publisher, Devolver Digital, announced the news that will surely be a welcome piece of information for fans of the game. Pepper Grinder is described as an action-packed pirate adventure that stars the titular Pepper.

Players will be able to take control of the seafaring soul who has a passion for prospecting equipped with Grinder, her super-powered drilling device. The story begins with you finding out that you have been shipwrecked and robbed of your treasure.

You must then help Pepper go on a journey with her trusty sidearm to reclaim what the mischievous Narlings stole from her.

Using Grinder, you will have to burrow through terrain and water, control machines, and pulverize Pepper's enemies who are blocking her way to her fortune, according to NicheGamer.

However, your journey through the region will not be an easy one as the land is filled with mysterious beings who come out of the shadows. Pepper Grinder features gritty gameplay in an animated world.

You will have access to precise movements, fluid drilling, and thrilling leaps as you chew your way through the world with your trust Grinder. Throughout your adventures, you can find new drill bits that will further make your gameplay chaotic and solve various puzzles.

There are also a lot of jewels and other treasures that you can pick up to use in shops in order to power up your character and you will also be able to open up new paths on the world map and find collectible stickers for your sticker book.

An Action-Packed Side-Scrolling Platformer

Pepper Grinder is a well-received platform game that was inspired heavily by various titles such as Donkey Kong Country 2, Dig Dug, and Ecco the Dolphin. This is something that is seen in the game's retro-style structure and mechanics, said MSN.

While the new game most probably will not reach the pinnacle of its legendary inspirations, it received a lot of praise from critics and players soon after it was released. This is something that more people will be able to do once it is released on more platforms on Aug. 6, 2024.

In a previous interview, the game's developer talked about the inspirations for Pepper, her character design, and much more about Pepper Grinder. Riv Hester also spoke about where the idea for Grinder's drill mechanism came from.

Hester seemingly had a history with Dig Dug when he was younger and the inspiration for Pepper Grinder was based on how he remembered the classic. He said that he was able to dig in any direction that he wanted.

He also noted that he played Ecco the Dolphin many times over the years, particularly the Sega CD version of Tides of Time. However, the inspiration for Pepper Grinder was also more of how he feels about the game, according to Game Rant.
