NetherRealms Studios is adding a 60 FPS option for Mortal Kombat 1's PC players but only for offline matches over potential stability issues in online mode.
The highly popular and brutal fighting game launched with a 30 FPS cap for in-game cutscenes, including Fatalities, despite the gameplay itself running at 60 FPS. The developer has long insisted that the cap was put in place to create flashier cutscenes.
Mortal Kombat 1 Patch
However, some players have argued that the switch from 60 to 30 and back again was somewhat jarring. But the latest update to Mortal Kombat 1 ditches the cap entirely with the addition of a new graphics setting that ups the limit to 60 FPS for PC only.
But NetherRealms issued a word of caution to players who want to use the new feature, saying that it was designed for PC gamers who have high-end rigs. The new patch, which is also available for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X players, introduces some character fixes.
One example of this targets the recently released DLC character Homeland from The Boys TV series. It also comes as the developer has delayed the launch of the Kameo character Ferra and revealed the official release date of the final Kombat Pack 1 DLC character, Takeda, according to IGN.
The small fighter who sat atop the hulking Torr as part of the combined Ferra & Torr character from Mortal Kombat X was originally scheduled to come later in June. However, in the new schedule, the character is alongside Takeda, who is set for release on July 23, 2024.

With the latest patch, players' thoughts now turn to what would follow for Mortal Kombat 1 in its coming second year. This is partly due to the developer not yet announcing any future DLC plans for the popular fighting game.
A prominent Mortal Kombat dataminer announced earlier this month that they had uncovered evidence suggesting that Ghostface from the Scream franchise will be a DLC character. This particular character was previously assumed to be a part of the inevitable Kombat Pack 2.
Removing FPS Limit
The adjustments for Homeland included in the latest patch finally removed the character's simple block infinite. On the other hand, Peacemaker has once again received a nerf despite getting battered time and again since his release, said EventHubs.
In particular, the new update reduces Peacemaker's hitpoints by 50 and makes his Human Torpedo and Enhanced Human Torpedo hit as high attacks. This significantly weakens the Mortal Kombat 1 character's ability to use these as wake-up options.
Reptile has had his damage scaling on Force Ball fixed when not enhanced and the update fixes Cyrax's canceling into Horizontal Kopter Chopper from Kopter Chopper not using Kameo Meter.
On top of the FPS cap removal and character fixes, the latest patch also has some general changes included. These are fixing several desyncs that sometimes occur during online play if the game has been hotfixed.
It also adjusted camera behavior when Homelander, Omni-Man, or Peacemaker are interrupted or hit high off-screen, according to ComicBook.
