Elden Ring Players are Racing To Kill Mohg To Access Shadow of the Erdtree DLC

Elden Ring Players are Racing To Kill Mohg To Access Shadow of the Erdtree DLC

Elden Ring players are now racing to kill Mohg and some speedrunners are competing to see how fast they can kill the boss that is required in order to access the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC.

The situation comes as Bandai Namco recently shared a friendly PSA (Public Service Announcement) for Elden Ring players earlier this month. It was to remind them that the majority of people are not ready for the Shadow of the Erdtree expansion.

That particular word of caution came after one streamer, Cohh Carnage, noted that fewer than 38% of Elden Ring players on Steam had the achievement of killing Mohg, Lord of Blood. This is something that you need to do if you want to access the new DLC.

Many expected that number to go up as players prepared to get into the new expansion but there was no real movement regarding it. This was true even on the day before the release of the Shadow of the Erdtree and the number only improved slightly to 39.1%, according to PCGamer.

There are some possible reasons why Mohg has kept a relatively high survival rate among Elden Ring players.

One is that many people are still new to the game and just haven't progressed far enough. Two is that Mohg is not actually a required kill in the base game itself and you can bypass to eventually become the Elden Lord.

The feat of defeating Mohg is achievable and has been showcased by speedrunners who are taking part in the "DLC Unlock% Speedrun Bounty" by NuclearPastaTom. This is simply a race to see who can unlock the Shadow of the Erdtree in the shortest time possible.

The basics of the challenge are simple: speedrunners need to take down Starscourge Radahn, Magnus the Beast Claw, and Mohg, Lord of Blood. The run will end after players light the Cocoon of the Empyrean site of grace and quit out of the game.

Tips for Fighting Mohg

If you are looking to gain access to the upcoming DLC, you can find Mohg by taking on an extremely long quest from White Mask Varre. The other way is by getting both halves of the Haligtree Medallion, said Forbes.

After that, you can use them to operate the Grand Lift of Rold, which will immediately take you to the Consecrated Snowfield. On the far west of the zone you arrive in, there is a ledge riding that contains a teleporter that will transport you to the Moghwyn Palace area. The boss is located at the top of the palace.

Taking down Mohg requires skill, patience and sometimes a bit of luck but with the right information, the fight can become easier. An item that can be useful is Mohg's Shackle which works similarly to Margit's Shackle and temporarily stuns the boss.

This can be done up to two times and only in the first phase of the fight to give you some free hits on Mohg. Additionally, the Purifying Crystal Tear will purify the Lord of Blood's curse to diminish the powerful health-draining Nihil attack, according to Polygon.
