Nintendo Switch Sports is Getting a New Addition in Upcoming Free Update

Nintendo Switch Sports has been revealed to be getting a brand new addition in the form of Basketball as part of an upcoming free update.

The announcement of the new update for Nintendo Switch Sports was made during the latest Nintendo Direct update. In the trailer, it was said that players can dribble, pass, and shoot in two-on-two matches or try to get the highest scores against up to three other players in the Five Streak Battle mode.

The games in Nintendo Switch Sports feel so refined and are delivered with such odd, coffee-shop-and-library charm that it doesn't matter how you play them. It is also a perfect title for people who missed the Nintendo Wii to give another chance of that same feeling, according to Eurogamer.

Nintendo Switch Sports originally launched in 2022 and came as the successor to the overwhelmingly popular Wii Sports series. While the game's initial offerings lacked depth and left some players craving for more, Nintendo has stuck with it and provided improvements through free updates.

Only a few months after the game was originally released, Nintendo added golf at no additional cost. The game's implementation of Basketball uses motion controls to dribble, pass, and shoot the ball into the ring.

Other than the game's 2v2 local match, Five Streak Battle, and Three-Point Contests, players can also choose to play a solo Three-Point Challenge. In this particular mode, you will have to make as many baskets as you can before the timer expires, said GameInformer.

The base game currently features various sports, including Bowling, Chambara, Soccer, Tennis, and Volleyball which were all available at launch. There are also some rumors that suggest Dodgeball is coming to Nintendo Switch Sports in the future as another new addition.

With Basketball being a leak prior to its official announcement, the rumors of Dodgeball could hold some validity. Additionally, the upcoming free update gives fans hope that the game will also bring back classic sports such as Baseball, Boxing, and Archery, according to GameRant.

Nintendo Direct Presentation

On top of this, rumors for the next Nintendo console being a Switch follow-up could suggest that some sports are being reserved to be released on the new device. This decision, if found to be accurate, could result in a smoother gaming experience due to increased specs.

The recent Nintendo Direct also featured a variety of other titles and reveals that have fans hyped up, particularly The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom and Mario & Luigi: Brothership. In terms of sports, Looney Tunes: Wacky of World of Sports was also revealed during the presentation.

This particular title will bring classic Looney Tunes characters back into the foray into four different sports that were designed with unique twists. These are in the form of powerups and special abilities that will give a fresh take on competition.

Capcom fans also got a glimpse of the upcoming Marvel vs. Capcom Fighting Collection: Arcade Classics which included different fighting games in the franchise. These are X-Men Children of the Atom, Marvel Super Heroes, and X-Men vs. Street Fighter, among others, according to NintendoLife.
