Fallout fans were left disappointed after a recent update by Bethesda revealing that the studio is not "rushing" to make a new game in the franchise as it plans more expansions for Starfield.
The revelation comes as fans of the series have been looking forward to something new to play in the post-apocalyptic RPG franchise since the success of the Fallout TV series. However, director Todd Howard said that Bethesda is not trying to work fast on a new single-player Fallout game.
Bethesda Gives Update on Fallout Franchise

He instead went into detail about what the team is currently busy with, which includes new expansions for its other title, Starfield, beyond this fall's Shattered Space DLC. Howard noted that they were giving a lot of thought to franchise management.
The director added that the team has never stopped working on the Fallout franchise but said that the majority of the efforts are going into Fallout 76. This is the multiplayer spin-off that just recently got a new map expansion and story questline, according to Kotaku.
Howard said that for other Fallout games in the future, he can't really talk about them but revealed that they don't feel the need to immediately get into them. He added that the Fallout TV show filled a certain niche in terms of the franchise and storytelling.

This would be bad news for fans who are hoping that Bethesda could pivot to making the next Fallout game sooner due to the success of the live-action show. For now, Fallout 5, which is its working title, is slated to go into production after The Elder Scrolls VI is completed, which could come years later.
The franchise has enjoyed a recent surge of popularity, including Fallout 4's next-gen update that made it one of April's most downloaded games. But Howard's comments suggest that not even remasters of Fallout 1 and Fallout 2 are being considered for now.
Leaving Fans Disappointed
The last mainline entry in the Fallout series was Fallout 4, which was initially released in 2015, and the year after saw the release of DLC content for PC and consoles. In 2018, Bethesda launched Fallout 76, which fans slowly flocked to, said IGN.
Howard talked about fans wanting another single-player Fallout game but noted that those kinds of projects take time to make. He said that it was not bad for people to miss things but argued that they want to make it right if they do decide to work on another Fallout game.
Earlier this year, he also spoke about Fallout 5, admitting that the studio is still focused on The Elder Scrolls VI as well as Starfield. However, he assured fans of the Fallout franchise that this did not mean that they are not planning for other things in the meantime.
On top of this, Bethesda, last month, decided to temporarily cut prices for games in the Fallout franchise in order to help promote the live-action TV show. While the games are still selling well, they also saw a large surge in concurrent players on Steam, according to Neowin.
