Bethesda's Starfield was review bombed following the game's Creation Club update due to players' disappointment, the latest in a series of controversies.
The addition of the Creation Club, or Creations, as it was recently rebranded, caused Starfield to once again fall into "Mostly negative reviews" on Steam. What's also worth noting is that the wave of bad reviews does not seem to show any signs of stopping anytime soon.

This comes as a loud group of players are making it clear that they did not want Creations anywhere near Starfield. One negative review said that Bethesda is now charging for individual quests through the new update, adding that $7 for a quest in a game that "you paid" $70 for.
That particular user added that the real cost is actually $10 because you have to purchase their currency in order to get it. There were other reviews that focused on the same, with another user saying, "Really? Another push for curated paid mods no one asked for?" according to TheGamer.
Starfield's Creation Club has been controversial among players since it debuted in 2017 because many people see it as just another way for the studio to roll out paid mods. The products from Creations are mostly made by fans and the profits are shared between the creators and Bethesda itself.
These products are purchased using a microcurrency instead of outright and also range from cosmetics to new quests. There are also many modders who are still releasing their mods for free.

It is also worth noting that the Creations lab in Starfield will let players check some of these out even if they are playing on consoles. However, for a wider range of mods, Nexus Mods is mostly what PC players trust and the Starfield page hosts around 7,700 uploads.
The recent backlash to the Creations Club update peaked on June 10, 2024, with 211 negative reviews for that particular day. While not all of them were for Creations, the majority complained about the new addition, said MSN.
Controversy Around the Creations Club
One other user posted a negative review that putting quests behind a paywall was not right, referencing a faction quest in Starfield. Even one player who supported Creations said that adding a subsequent mission behind paid content is where they draw the line.
Other than the issue, Bethesda also rolled out the latest update following Creations on June 14, 2024, that featured bug fixes and new tools for modders. The latest patch included changes to The Starjacker, which is one of the game's latest bounty-hunting missions that are given by the Tracker's Alliance.
The update specifically resolves an issue that prevented Adrastos from responding correctly if he was shot or scanned before the player attempted to interact with him on the streets of Akila City.
Another thing that was included in the newest patch is fixing Creations animations, which are now promised to work properly without having to restart Starfield. There were also some stability improvements included in the patch, according to GameRant.
