League of Geeks Behind Armello, Jumplight Odyssey to 'Hibernate' After Layoffs

League of Geeks, the studio known for Armello, Jumplight Odyssey, and Solium Infernum, announced it is going into "hibernation for the foreseeable future." This decision follows a major workforce reduction at the end of last year.

Financial Struggles Lead to Layoffs

In December, League of Geeks faced many financial challenges. They cited "rapidly rising operation costs, a worsening AUD/USD exchange rate, poor early access sales of Jumplight Odyssey, and a lack of funding opportunities." As a result, they had to cut 50% of their workforce and pause the development of Jumplight Odyssey indefinitely.

Studio to Take an Extended Break

Months later, the studio's situation hasn't improved. Co-founders Ty Carey, Blake Mizzi, and Trent Kusters posted on the studio's website, "The economic situation in games being what it is right now, we have made the decision to put LoG into hibernation for the foreseeable future and take some extended time off." Most of the team has moved on to new projects, and those who remain will take a break.

Although active development is stopping, the studio's games will still be available and supported. Jumplight Odyssey will stay in early access with hopes to complete it in the next year, but it might not reach the full version planned. Development of Solium Infernum is ending due to insufficient sales revenue, though minor updates are expected. Armello will continue as usual with seasonal content.
