Black Myth Wukong Skips Xbox for August Launch, Available on PS5 and PC

Black Myth Wukong, a highly anticipated action role-playing game, will not be available on Xbox when it launches on August 20, 2024. The game, developed by Chinese studio Game Science, is now available for pre-order, with a fresh trailer released during the Summer Game Fest.

Xbox Version Delayed for Optimization

According to an FAQ for pre-orders, the game will be released on PS5 and PC on the announced date. However, the Xbox version needs more time for optimization.

Game Science explained that they are still optimizing the Xbox Series X/S version to meet their quality standards, which is why it won't be released at the same time as the other platforms. They apologized for the delay and assured Xbox users that they are working to minimize the wait. The release date for the Xbox version will be announced once it meets their quality standards.

The exact reasons for the Xbox delay are unclear, but it's not an isolated incident. For instance, the Xbox version of Baldur's Gate 3 was also delayed due to difficulties with split-screen co-op on the less powerful Series S console.

Physical Copies Without Discs

The FAQ also mentioned that future downloadable content (DLC) and "non-pay-to-win in-game purchases" may be released. Additionally, while physical copies of the game will be available, they won't include a disc.

Game Science stated that this is their first time releasing a console game globally, and they are encountering limitations in offline resources needed for the import, export, transportation, distribution, and sales of physical discs. These challenges have made it difficult to offer physical discs at the same time as the game's official release.

The development team is working on solutions to offer physical discs in the future. The release date for Black Myth Wukong was first revealed at The Game Awards last year.
