Counter-Strike Skin Sells for More Than $1 Million Due to Unique Design

Counter-Strike Skin Sells for More Than $1 Million Due to Unique Design

A Counter-Strike skin has reportedly been sold for more than $1 million due to its unique design and is one that is used with the popular shooter game's AK-47 weapon.

This is the most expensive public skin sale ever in the history of Counter-Strike and the exact final sum was not disclosed by the private buyer. However, it was referenced that the transaction of the unique skin was worth more than $1 million.

The Counter-Strike skin in question is a StatTrak Factory New AK-47 in Blue Gem (Pattern 661), which is a one-of-one weapon skin.

It was hidden in secrecy for more than a decade as it was kept inside a collector's storage. While it was known to have been obtained, it was never revealed who actually owned it.

In January earlier this year, the Blue Gem AK-47 was "discovered" and many users believed that it had been unboxed in a CS weapon case. This significant pull would have enough clout to turn your average gamer into a millionaire in a single night, according to Insider Gaming.

Two years ago, a slightly "more worn" variant of the unique skin was sold for a staggering $400,000, which is a price that is far from being the most expensive skin sale in the history of Counter-Strike.

The news of the $1 million sale of the unique skin was shared by a user on X, formerly known as Twitter, @JakeSucky. It also comes as last year, one user unboxed a $150,000 rare Blue Gem Karambit, which is a type of knife, just a few weeks into playing Counter-Strike Global Offensive.

The sheer number of Counter-Strike skins that are worth a fortune has resulted in people dubbing them the "OG NFTs" and what's even more ironic is that the skins' values have outlasted the value of even the most popular NFTs.

A Historic Price Tag

The latest skin to be sold for a historic price was first introduced in CS: GO in 2013 and there are a variety of "Minimal Wear" condition versions available in the wild. But the "Factory New" variant was only seen in January, said Kotaku.

At the time that it was discovered, players and streamers alike speculated on the potential price that the unique skin could have, which is $1 million. The skin's value is heavily reliant on its Blue Gem coloring, which gives the weapon a shiny blue metallic look.

Blue Gem skins in Counter-Strike have a history of being the rarest and most expensive skins in the game. The X user who revealed the sale of the recent skin also shared a video of it in action, giving those who cannot afford it a chance to see it in all its glory.

The latest sale also comes as the previous owner of the unique skin rejected a $1.5 million offer and it was also revealed that several $1 million offers have been rejected "multiple times" for various reasons that have not been disclosed by the owner, according to Esports.gg.
