Ikea is Looking To Hire Real People To Work at Its Digital Roblox Store

Ikea is Looking To Hire Real People To Work at Its Digital Roblox Store

Ikea is looking to hire real people to man its digital Roblox store and will pay the employees $16.82 per hour as they help other players pick out furniture.

The new job openings come as Roblox was first released in 2006 and is a multi-platform multiplayer game that lets players use official tools to create, play, and share their own games and experiences with other people.

Some of these games have since become extremely popular with the community and racked up millions of players and sometimes even earned creators money.

There are also other experiences in Roblox that are created by corporations, such as the recently announced Walmart store that sells digital and real items.

Now, Ikea itself is looking to jump on the bandwagon by hiring 10 "lucky candidates" to work in the furniture company's new digital Roblox store. The workers will be paid at an hourly rate and, obviously, will require remote work, according to Kotaku.

However, it is worth noting that the company is only looking to hire people aged 18 or older and live in the United Kingdom as they will be on a "limited contract." The primary responsibility of the people who will be hired by Ikea will be working in different sections of the digital store.

They will then help other people find furniture, and serve meatballs to customers, and they even have a chance to win "exclusive content."

For people who want to apply for the job openings, they need to answer some questions such as what they would do if Ikea ran out of pixelated hot dogs and how they would feel about being turned into pixels.

One thing that is worth noting is that Ikea's job openings are in no way officially affiliated with or supported by Roblox itself. However, it has hinted at its plans to potentially hire people using the online game in the future.

The announcement of Ikea's job openings for its digital Roblox store was made in a press release on Monday. In it, the Swedish retailer said that it was launching "The Co-Worker Game," which is a virtual recreation of its store on June 24, 2024, said Time.

Moving to the Digital World

Culture manager for Ikea UK and Ireland, Darren Taylor, said that they were excited to be the first brand to launch paid work on Roblox. He said that it was decided on in order to showcase how they do careers differently compared to other companies.

Taylor added that there is no set route to career progression in Ikea, noting that co-workers are able to change roles, switch departments, and grow in any way that they choose. This is true for both in the game and in the real world.

While it is not immediately clear what Ikea's specific requirements for the job are, the openings require people to submit a CV or resume and also let them send in a video.

Candidates who want to get the job will also be interviewed virtually before the company selects who gets to work in the Roblox store, according to Rolling Stone.
