The Skywind mod for The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim is the dream of every fan of the series, remaking Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind in the more modern game's engine.
I've written about how awesome it looks before, and now there's a 12 minute-long video of great footage and useful developer commentary. If you're a fan of the series at all, it's a really enjoyable video that gives insight into their process and objectives.
It may not be an official Bethesda release, but it has to be one of the biggest fan-made endeavors a modding community has ever undertaken. Narrator Daniel Hodge shows how the game is coming along as the development team (made up of volunteers) continues to grow along with the game world.
A while back, they had modeled and constructed most of the expansive game world, but it was unpopulated and did not have Morrowind's quests incorporated. That's what the team has primarily been working on, in addition to polishing their work.
As I mentioned, the project is entirely run by volunteers--if you have any skills that could help speed up the process, sign up on their website. 3D modelling is in high demand right now as they can never have enough contributors to big and small projects, which they explain in the video.
There is currently no planned release date for the mod because it will depend on how many people help (the more quality contributors the better). I hope they are done soon, though--Morrowind was a fantastic game in its time, but can be very hard to play through now that we're used to modern features. This, in addition to looking much, much better graphically, is why Skywind is such an exciting project.
