Project Arroyo, a fan-made remake of Fallout 2 using Fallout 4's creation engine, is nearing completion. The development team shares regular updates on the project's progress on X. In an interview with TheGamer, project lead Damien Daponte discussed bringing Fallout 2's San Francisco setting into an open-world format and the team's plans for the mod's launch.

Welcome to Arroyo
Daponte suggests that releasing the mod on Steam is a practical decision. "It's a platform that everyone uses. It's easier to access, update, and install, making it more efficient," he says.
Nexus Mods, another popular platform for mods, is not as efficient for a project of this size, which will require frequent updates and patches.
"We need to avoid legal issues by requiring players to own Fallout 2, Fallout 4, and all its DLC," Daponte explains. "But we'll see - we're still looking into it. Personally, I'm leaning towards Steam."
Massive Undertaking
The most recent update for Project Arroyo was posted on May 23, featuring concept art for a new location called the Oakland Crater.
With over 100 volunteers working on the project, Project Arroyo is a significant effort. The team is creating a lot of original content, including new voice acting for every character and a unique soundtrack due to copyright restrictions on the original music.
There is no set release date yet, but the mod is progressing steadily.
