Manor Lords First Major Patch is Trying To Fix the Game's Economy

Manor Lords developer Slavic Magic recently released the medieval city-building game's latest major patch that tries to fix the economy.

The changes that have been implemented with the patch released on May 31, 2024, include the Annual Royal Tax. This aims to stop players from incurring so much debt without consequences and discourages them from hoarding gold.

One of the most important things in Manor Lords is collecting resources because it is a crucial step to building up your kingdom. If you have no money, then you will most likely not stand a chance at raising a settlement that has any power or influence over those who surround you.

Despite this, the developer has noticed that there were a few too many leaders who have been hoarding wealth. This has made running a kingdom a little bit too easy for some, which has forced them to enforce a new king's tax.

In this particular case, it seems like taxes have become necessary to prevent players from holding onto huge resources and never running out in Manor Lords. In almost every RTS game, having the maximum amount of wealth with no penalties can ruin the gaming experience, according to PCGamesN.

Slavic Magic has recognized the issue and added The King's Tax in patch 0.7.972 which was released on Friday, May 31, 2024. The new expense is said to be collected from all players annually and will affect both the main player and AI and will go to the liege.

The amount of money that will be taken will be determined based on population size and serves as a "counterbalance for players hoarding huge wealth despite non-optimized economies." The developer is hoping that the new feature will keep players from incurring debt without consequences.

This meant that there were no severe threats if players ran out of money and Slavic Magic is also looking at implementing a new system in the future. This is where failure to pay will result in "facing the king's army as enemies."

Fixing the Economy

On top of the new king's tax, the latest patch also adds a variety of other features and addresses other problems, including clogged Trading Posts, weak archers, overhighly ale consumption, disappearing crops, and more, said IGN.

There are also other balance changes that Slavic Magic added to Manor Lords in the latest patch for the game. The developer has taken advantage of the testing period in order to fine-tune different mechanics in the game.

Some of the changes affect armor variations, a refreshed Large Granary, a new patron saint, and more. Slavic Magic recommends players begin a new save file in order to enjoy all of the fixes and changes that have been added to the game.

Manor Lords is a city-builder game similar to the Civilization franchise and offers compelling strategy and mechanics. The game initially launched in early access on Steam in April for PC and immediately became one of the most highly rated games with a "Very Positive" rating, according to GameRant.
