The new gameplay trailer also features a lot more footage about Monster Hunter Wilds but did not provide a release date yet other than that it will be coming next year.

The footage also introduced what seems to be an ensemble cast of characters. They are seen conversing while traveling on a massive boat moving across sand dunes in a desert.

The trailer then shows a series of shots that depict the characters exploring several environments that are filled with monsters. It also showed some classic Monster Hunter-esque battles with over-the-shoulder shots of a character wielding a wide array of weapons, according to Polygon.

The new footage also comes as the Monster Hunter franchise celebrates its 20th anniversary this year. The series comprises dozens of highly successful titles across a variety of platforms, even tabletop.

Monster Hunter World, which was the franchise's best-selling entry released in 2017, was a massive action-adventure game but did not actually feature an open world. Monster Hunter: Rise, which was released in 2021, followed a similar formula.

With Monster Hunter Wilds being a fully open-world game, fans of the franchise can expect more freewheeling exploration through much bigger maps and biomes. So far, what has been revealed is that the game will be released on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X.

The latest trailer also represents the first big wave of monsters that have been confirmed for the upcoming game. A brand new creature that was showcased is the Dalthydon, which is a herbivorous wyvern that has a seasonal migration pattern, said IGN.

A Ton of New Monsters and Features

There is also the Ceratonoth, which travels in herds so that its males can work to protect the group from sandstorms using their lightning rod-like dorsal horns.

There were also a variety of large monsters showcased in the trailer, including the fanged Doshaguma and the Chatacabra, which has a massive tongue.

An iconic and classic monster was also featured in the footage, Rathalos, which is one of the franchise's most beloved creatures and is seen in a vast majority of titles in the series. In Monster Hunter Wilds, players join a Research Commission team.

You will investigate a place that is known as the Forbidden Lands where you will encounter new companions and a mysterious child who is seemingly crucial to the story.

Some of the new features in the upcoming game include full voice acting, seamless flow from story sequences to gameplay, and new mounts.

The new trailer is the latest bit of information regarding the game that has been revealed to the public since December last year. The team behind Monster Hunter Wilds said that every locale, monster, and person, acts with their own thoughts and motivations, according to the PlayStation Blog.
