Rooftops & Alleys: The Parkour Game is now out on Steam early access and was made by solo indie developer MLMEDIA that lets players experience the freedom of just running and jumping over obstacles.

The game has already gotten a solid fan base and received nearly a thousand overwhelmingly positive reviews on Valve's gaming platform since it came out on May 21, 2024. The sports game is entirely focused on giving you the experience of parkour and freerunning.

However, it also gives players a chance to play with shooter mechanics and stab people in the hoods. The game combines the discipline of parkour, which lets players run and hop around while exploring the world.

You can try out tricks and chase challenging tricks and also offers the more competitive practice of freerunning. This serves up medal-scored time trials and trick challenges that you need to chase on the game's maps.

Rooftops & Alleys: The Parkour Game is also a proper multi-button game that will require you to use controls to leap, land, sprint, mantle, and vault. The developer said that there is no "hold button to parkour" mentality in the game, according to PCGamer.

The game's layout, how it is played, and the culture behind it is probably the closest that parkour has ever gotten to becoming a game like the Tony Hawk's Pro Skater franchise. It also comes with an original and very chill soundtrack.

The early access release of Rooftops & Alleys: The Parkour Game so far has three maps available for players to explore. It also features a trick-chaining and scoring system as well as trick challenges and time trials for those who are looking for something more difficult.

The developer made sure to include dynamic weather to make the game more immersive, which is something that players can change whenever they want. There is also a bit of character customization and a stylish slo-mo button when you want to take videos of your tricks on the go.

The Experience of Freerunning

Late in April this year, MLMEDIA shared a demo reel of Rooftops & Alleys: The Parkour Game that revealed how Cascadeur was used as the animation software.

It was used to create detailed and exciting animations for the game that promises to be that title that "scratches that itch that other games just don't," said 80lv.

The game aims to provide a unique take on the genre and has its own control mechanics that require a controller to play. So far, Rooftops & Alleys: The Parkour Game is only available on PC but is planned to be released on consoles upon official release.

On its Steam store page, the developer also answered some frequently asked questions that players had about his new game. Regarding how long it will stay in early access, MLMEDIA noted that he is only one person working on the entire game.

He said that it relies heavily on community feedback and potential changes being made along the way, MLMEDIA said that the early access will probably last the entirety of this year and ideally, the game will have a full release in 2025, according to Steam.
