XDefiant's Launch is Plagued With Matchmaking Issues as Ubisoft Scrambles for a Fix

XDefiant's Launch is Plagued With Matchmaking Issues as Ubisoft Scrambles for a Fix

XDefiant recently launched after several delays but is now suffering from widespread matchmaking issues as Ubisoft is scrambling to provide a fix for players.

While the problems that players have been having have not been severe enough to keep them from logging in, it is still a major issue. The main problem right now is that XDefiant is giving players a hard time when they are trying to find someone to play with.

Many players expect a game's launch day to have some kind of flaw and most first-person shooter fans are aware of some teething issues. However, because XDefiant has had a few alpha and beta tests before its official launch, they expected it to be somewhat smoother than what was actually delivered.

The issue revolves around when attempting to join or find any kind of match, players are immediately given error messages saying that the game is "Unable to Find Match." What's making players even more frustrated is that some are able to get past this message and get into games, according to PCGamesN.

On top of this, the Practice Zone for XDefiant is not currently live, which means that there is no other option for players to hone their skills while waiting for the game's issues to be fixed. Fortunately, Ubisoft is already investigating the situation and posted on X, formerly known as Twitter.

The studio told players that the team was already hard at work trying to figure out what exactly was wrong so that they could fix the problem. The initial post wrote, "We're aware that some players are unable to join a game - please bear with us while we look into servers and matchmaking."

Ubisoft also said that they were all focused on the matchmaking issue and are continuously investigating the situation. It added that more information and updates will be shared as they find out more.

XDefiant's competitive focus manifests outside of one introductory playlist and its casual playlists do not use skill-based matchmaking. The benefit of this is that players will always be up against other players who are near their skill level, making each battle a challenge but not too one-sided, said PCGamer.

However, it is somewhat controversial because other players believe that it homogenizes the experience or just does not work well at all. Some have also pointed out that this system could lead to longer matchmaking queues.

Right now, there are nearly 200,000 Twitch viewers for XDefiant and everyone is watching both big and small streamers. Many of these are also staring at the menus or error messages that the matchmaking issue has caused.

XDefiant was first announced in July 2021 as a shooter that combines elements of Tom Clancy games, from Ghost Recon to The Division. It eventually became clear that the game was trying to go head-on after Call of Duty with gameplay that was inspired by the earlier years of that franchise.

It was initially set to be dropped in October last year but was delayed over six months to today and it had gone through several tests throughout that time, according to Forbes.
