Player First Games just released a new trailer for Multiversus showing that it will be adding two new characters to the fight game's already expansive roster with Friday the 13th's Jason Voorhees and the Matrix's Agent Smith.

The latest cinematic launch trailer revealed the two new characters coming to the fighting that will be coming out on May 28, 2024. Multiversus is a free-to-play platform fighter that looks and feels similar to Nintendo's Smash Bros. franchise.

Jason and Agent Smith will be joining the roster of Multiversus alongside DC Super-Villain the Joker, who is being voiced by Mark Hamill. They will be coming as part of Season 1: Puns & Villainy.

The horror franchise character will be available at launch while Agent Smith will be coming to the game later in the season. The trailer also featured several other characters in the game, including Wonder Woman, Velma, Bugs Bunny, Marvin the Martian, and many more, according to IGN.

Multivesus, developed by Player First Games, will soon be available to download for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, and PC via Steam and Epic Games Store. It will also have full cross-play and cross-progression support, letting players use whatever platform they want.

Warner Bros. re-announced in March earlier this year that Multiversus will be getting a new release date after the developer rebuilt it from the ground up. This was so that they could improve online play and improve its visuals by moving to Unreal Engine 5.

The platform fighter game officially shut down in June last year after it launched with a Battle Pass, microtransactions, and several DLC characters. The first release was considered an open beta but some players expressed discontent at the game going dark after they spent real money on it.

Despite players' grievances with the developer, there are those who admire Player First Games' commitment to trying to make the game back better than before. Many are now hoping that the extreme time the studio has taken will improve the already good game, said Rock Paper Shotgun.

Mark Hamill Returns as the Joker

The addition of Jason and Agent Smith to the game's roster comes after the developer also showcased the Joker, bringing back the iconic voice of Hamill to the role. A gameplay trailer was also released showcasing the character's moves and also teased another potential new addition.

The Powerpuff Girls could also be coming soon to Multiversus as the young superheroes were shown in the Joker's trailer. In regards to the DC Super Villain, he is a Mage-class fighter which makes him more suited to ranged combat.

He relies on his wide arsenal of weapons and tools to deal damage to his enemies without getting too close. These weapons include a pogo stick, spring-loaded boxing gloves, a rocket launcher, balloons, and cartoonish cannons.

Hamill's return to voicing the Joker also sees him reuniting with the late Kevin Conroy, who voiced Multiversus' Batman character before he passed away.

While the former had stepped away from voicing his iconic character, the latest development brings the two voices back together for one last time, according to Polygon.
