Anticipation Builds for Possible BioShock or Mafia Announcement
The news of 2K's upcoming reveal was announced through Summer Game Fest's official social media account. Although details are still under wraps, fans are eagerly speculating which franchise will be highlighted.
One strong contender is BioShock. 2K confirmed a new entry in the series was in development back in 2019. Since then, there have been few updates, but a 2021 report suggested the new game would be set in an Antarctic city during the 1960s. This setting has sparked a lot of interest among fans who are eager for more information.
Another possibility is a new Mafia game. In August 2022, Mafia 3 developer Hangar 13 confirmed they were working on another title in the series. This project is rumored to be a prequel to the existing trilogy. However, given its status as "a few years away" in 2022, a 2024 reveal might seem premature.
Could a Borderlands Announcement Be on the Horizon?
There is also speculation about potential announcements from Gearbox, a company 2K's parent company, Take-Two Interactive, acquired from Embracer earlier this year. Late last year, references to Borderlands 4 and Tiny Tina's Wonderlands 2 appeared on a former Gearbox technical director's LinkedIn profile. Neither game has been officially confirmed, but a Borderlands announcement would align well with the upcoming Borderlands movie set to release in August.
With the Summer Game Fest just weeks away, the wait for more concrete information will soon be over. Fans of 2K's franchises are buzzing with excitement, eager to see what the company has in store.
